RV travel and RV camping has become a hugely popular recreational pastime in the United States in the last few decades. This is particularly true in Midwest states like Illinois. There are at least 80 RV parks and public and private campgrounds in Illinois that are open year-round, and another dozen or so that are open seasonally. Illinois has an extensive system of state park and recreation areas (more than 120 total), and many of these offer RV camping facilities.

Chain O Lakes State Park

Right in the middle of Illinois' largest concentration of natural lakes, Chain O Lakes State Park is a water-focused recreation area fun for boaters, anglers and skiers. The park borders three natural lakes (Grass, Marie and Nippersink Lakes), and the Fox River that forms the other seven lakes of the chain passes through the park.

Chain O Lakes offers 488 miles of lakeshore, including more than a half-dozen beaches and dozens of boat ramps. The park also has four marked hiking trails. Chain O Lakes is a well-developed recreation and camping area with over 200 RV-ready campsites at six locations (and three cabins with showers if you need a night away from your RV).
